Till 11th September more than 6.16 cr ITRs for AY 2022-23 would have been submitted, as per the data available on the income tax website. The tax department already manages more than 5 cr ITRs. The major concern of the assesses after furnishing their returns is to get an income tax refund. Some of the assessees didn’t obtain their tax refunds. Below are the causes of the late IT refund.

One is only eligible to get the tax refund when his ITR has been processed and validated. You will obtain a message via the Income Tax Department after your return gets processed.

You must find out about the refund status when your ITR has been processed and the refund gets validated. On the NSDL website or the income tax e-filing website, you could find out about the refund process.

Through the NSDL Website See the Refund Status:

  • Go to the NSDL website
  • Key in your PAN number and related Assessment Year.
  • Finish the captcha challenger and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  • The status of your tax refund will get prompted on the window. If it specifies “No record found,” then it means that the refund does not have been generated via the income tax department yet.

The Process to Review the Refund Status Through the Income Tax E-filing Website:

  • Go to the tax e-filing site
  • Log into the portal via your PAN number and Password.
  • See the e-file option and tap on Income Tax returns beneath the same.
  • Tap on ‘view filed returns’ to uncover the status.

The income tax refund can get late when there occurs an issue with pre-validating your bank account or if your PAN card was not linked to your bank account. If you did not pre-validate the same then the income tax refund will not get credited to your bank account. To ensure that the PAN is linked to your bank account, you should approach your bank. When your refund gets failed then you can submit the refund and re-issue request through the income tax e-filing portal.
