A new ‘e-Pay Tax’ system has been launched by the Income Tax Department on its official website for streamlining the payments to citizens, as per the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). “No more standing in long bank lines, filling complicated forms, or worrying about last-minute tax payments. The Department’s new ‘e-Pay Tax’ feature offers a simple, efficient, and stress-free way to meet your tax obligations,” the CBDT clarified.
Taxpayers in this new system are allowed to access without logging in, no username or password required.
Step 1- You are required to go to the income tax return(ITR) filing website to access these services and tap on e-pay tax.
Step 2- You shall merely fill in your PAN and mobile number thereafter file an OTP obtained on your mobile number.
Step 3- Subsequently, choose the appropriate tax type, like income tax or advance tax, and enter payment details along with any additional charges.
Step 4- Post checking everything, tap Pay Now to finish.
Step 5- Through the text and email, you shall get the immediate confirmation along with the downloadable payment receipt.
CBDT cited that “This isn’t just about new technology. It shows how the government is improving its relationship with taxpayers by making all services simpler. It’s a glimpse of what digital governance should be – convenient, fast and uncomplicated.” The same feature ensures timely tax payments via eliminating issues and draws tax services closer to citizens, particularly individuals and small businesses, by delivering a direct digital payment option.
As per the Income Tax Act, 1961 rules the income tax is collected via the Indian Government on everyone’s earnings. On yearly income, it is levied with the tax year running from April 1 to March 31.
