ITR Filing By Online and Offline Utilities for AY-25
ITR Filing By Online and Offline Utilities

For the fiscal year 2023–24 (AY25), the Income Tax Department has simplified and expedited the ITR return filing process for taxpayers by introducing three new online forms: ITR-1, ITR-2, and ITR-4. These forms are easily accessible and can be completed on the department's official website. They are available, aiming to streamline and expedite the tax filing process for individuals across the country.

The IT Department's website has made it easier for taxpayers to file their ITR returns for the FY 2023-2024 by providing online forms that can be accessed since April 1, 2024. Taxpayers can conveniently file their returns online with this option, eliminating the need for paper submissions.

The ability to complete online tax forms is one of the new features the tax department has made available to taxpayers. The tax department has now supplied offline Excel utilities for these forms to further assist people in finishing their tax submissions. Additionally, taxpayers can download and use the offline JSON utilities that the department has made available for a few other forms for the same fiscal year at their convenience.

A little note on income tax returns: July 31st, 2024 is the deadline for submitting for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

Those who are obligated to file taxes can select between two different ways to file their returns.

Online Income Tax Return Filing

When filing their income tax return, taxpayers can conveniently access their account on the IT Department's official website. When users select "File ITR after logging in, their personal information will be prefilled based on their Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement (AIS). Before filing their tax return, it is strongly advised to double-check the prefilled information with pertinent documents such as Form 16, Form 16A, or other certificates. This will guarantee the information's accuracy and assist in preventing any mistakes or inconsistencies.

Utilizing Offline Govt. Utilities

You can use the Income Tax Department's website to file your taxes offline if you're a taxpayer and prefer to do so. They provide several offline tools, such as Excel and JSON, that let you enter your tax information and get your tax return ready. After finishing the procedure, you can submit your tax return online by uploading it. To further streamline the procedure, if you have already registered for an account on the website, you can access pre-filled information from your account and utilise it in conjunction with the offline tools.

It is imperative that taxpayers choose the right Income Tax Return (ITR) form according to their sources of income. Selecting the appropriate form helps avoid possible legal problems and guarantees accurate income reporting.

  • The ITR1 form can be used to file Income Tax Returns (ITRs) by individual taxpayers who are residents of India, except individuals who do not normally reside there. Individuals who get income up to Rs 50,000 from agriculture, dividends, interest, family pensions, and single-house properties in addition to salary are eligible to utilise this form. Throughout a fiscal year, the taxpayer's total income from all sources cannot surpass Rs 50 lakh.
  • ITR 2 forms must be filed with tax returns by people with multiple residential properties and those who have realised capital gains. This form is intended primarily to meet the requirements of taxpayers with complicated financial circumstances, such as multiple property ownership or capital gains income.
  • For people who receive revenue from their enterprises and occupations, there is a sort of income tax return form called the ITR 4 form. This form is intended for people whose occupations and enterprises are subject to specific taxable sections under the terms of the Income Tax Act. For those who fall into this category, the ITR 4 form is crucial because it helps them correctly report their income, spending, and deductions and makes sure they pay the right amount of tax as required by law.

This year, the IT Department has released the tax return forms earlier than usual, which is an unprecedented move. Due to this change, taxpayers now have a significant amount of additional time to submit their taxes and make any required revisions.

Because of this, a large number of employees with fixed salaries might not be able to start submitting their taxes until the end of June when they obtain the required Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) certifications. Those who are anxious to finish their tax duties on time may become frustrated and annoyed by this delay.
